Fertilization Report - IVF #2 (updated)

Got the call from the clinic - here's the fertilization report:

Of the 14 eggs retrieved, 9 were mature and were fertilized with ICSI. As a result, we have 7 embryos doing their thing!

We're tentatively scheduled for a 3-day transfer on Sunday, with a good chance of going for the 5-day on Tuesday. We'll see on Sunday how many make it and how they are doing.

Oh, and please, dear readers, believe me when I say that I was very happy with the 14 eggs retrieved. Yes, it's a lot less than last time, but I'm not hyper-stimulated like last time AND we got fresh swimmer rather than biopsied ones this time. Getting any results is a blessing. Last time we had 24 eggs, but only 16 were mature; 9 were fertilized and we ended up with 5 blasts to transfer. Again, it's quality, not quantity that matters!

Doing ICLW this month has really brought home how I'm definitely in the "veteran" camp now doing a second IVF. I am so much less nervous, so much more zen this time around. Thankfully.

As always, I'm so thankful for all of you, for your comments and support.

Coming to you from Mad Hatter's blog...saw your comment & wanted to thank you. I hope that you will have a successful transfer, looks like the retrieval went very well for you! Ironically, as an RE, my wife & I suffered from infertility too. My wife went through IVF at about your age, 14 eggs retrieved, 6 fertilized and 4 total put back...we ended up with a successful singleton, our daughter. Keep in mind, this was over 12 years ago when the technology wasn't as good as today! In fact, she was one of the first babies made using ICSI & is perfectly healthy and beautiful...
Looking forward to following your blog & to good news in your future.

Great fert report! Hoping for good news on Sunday. And while I don't wish anyone to be an IVF "vet" having gone through the craziness before does make the next time much easier.

My fingers are crossed for you Jem!

I know what you mean by feeling like a veteran. It is still just as emotional and intense, but it's not as scary so much/you know what to expect. Taking much the unknown out definitely helps the stress level.
I think your results are great! 7 embryos!! Here's to hoping for a day-5!!
So you get your next fert report on Sunday morning right? Ugh, good luck with the tense wait until then. I hate that part. They should have called infertility "waiting". It seems to be all we do!

Congrats, great numbers! Glad to hear you're positive about it. I think it's easy to focus on quantity but if the quality isn't there, there's no point! Wishing you the best on Sunday or Tuesday!!!

Jem, I'm late stopping by your blog, but I'm so happy for your fert report!! Those are great numbers and it is great that you are not hyper-stimulated this time, that is so painful.

Stay zen!
