I survived...

Family visit: Friday after work I visited with my step-sister and her 4-y-o son. It was lovely to read him a story (or three) as he went to bed. Didn't leave me sad, just more determined to be a mom.

Baby Shower: Saturday got up early to finish cleaning the house before the 8 ladies arrived for the baby shower. I didn't serve bourbon and none of my guests wanted to drink (it started at noon). We did have great food and a blast decorating onesies of various sizes with fabric paints as gifts for the mom-to-be. Then we did a Mad_Lib and then opened presents. It was a really good time. Again, it didn't leave me sad at all, but just happy for her (a "whoops PG" at age 41, not married and with a guy who travels a lot for his job, not the best combo).

Adult fun: (not that kind, get your mind out of the gutter!) Sunday I slept in (take THAT, all you moms out there! Ha!) and then went to a Purim party - drank red wine and had a blast (take that, all you moms-to-be out there who can't drink! I'm not bitter, really! LOL!)

Overall, a wonderful weekend...

Period from hell: Only dark side is that I'm on my 8th day of bleeding, if you call this rusty brown leakage bleeding. My period normally lasts 3-4 days and is mostly bright red. TMI? Sorry.

Fitness: My next step is to get back to exercising! I'm 30 lbs over my ideal weight. Since we're taking a break with ART until May I have time to get back to my pre-IVF and pre-TTC weight. I joined Weight_Watchers, but have had a hard time getting back to tracking.

Are any of you out there working on losing weight between treatments? Any tips or words of wisdom for us?

Okay, that catches you all up. Work's going to be super busy this week, so if you don't hear from me, know that I'm doing well, and keeping out of trouble.

Take it from a once-upon-a-time-I-was-thin-person... it's hard to lose weight and harder to keep it off, but you've been so good with all your other IVF related goals (no coffee, no wine, etc.) I'm sure you can do whatever you want! Good luck!!!!!!

I thought I could do the Weight Watchers method in my head and only found success when I actually tracked - I had lost 7 lbs since Thanksgiving but in my overly confident self, haven't tracked the last 3 weeks or so and lo and behold - I've relapsed 2 lbs... track, track, track is my motto. Hard, I know, but worth it for the results! Good luck to you!

Poppet: I'm back on the coffee and the wine! I guess I'll just have to track everything, won't I? I was down to Lifetime status, but not for many years.

Hi Jem, Glad to see your numbers are finally getting down there! AND nice that you can finally drink wine and coffee! :)
Good luck on the exercising... it is hard when you are going through all this, so don't be too hard on yourself. 30lbs over 'ideal' isn't that much.

Hey! I think ww is the best weight loss program out there in terms of healthy weight loss. I'm doing the online program--just started while on maternity leave. I'm with you; with IF treatments and then all of the adoption stuff, I have some weight to get off--so, you are not alone!

I lost a lot of weight on WW and worked out regularly in order to get "fit" for baby. When baby didn't come-- and didn't come-- I packed on the pounds. I can't blame it all on the hormones I shot myself full of- I guess I just let myself go (and drank like a fish to compensate for no baby). Now that I'm on the other side of the fence (with child) trying to lose weight I gained during infertility years + pregnancy weight. Have lost 20 lbs on WW since Sept but am stuck on a plateau. Good for you to committing to it. If you want a WW buddy you know how to reach me! xo

Wow, glad to hear you made it through all that!

I'm jumping back on the WW train too. If by any chance you have an iPhone they have a WW app where you can calculate and track your points...

Good luck!

Now that my husband and I have given up on ("chosen to stop" sounds more positive) fertility treatments, my goal is losing the weight that I put on during our TTC time (that damn BFN diet really got to me). My plan is to watch portion sizes (but not cut out any types of food) and workout at least 4 times a week. We'll see how effective that plan is.

The baby shower actually sounds like it was fun (she says in deep admiration)! Sorry to hear about AF. I know my periods were always mighty strange after miscarriage cycles (and those weren't even ectopics, which I imagine would be worse) so my fingers are crossed for you that things get in gear very, very soon. And good for you for getting in shape before your next cycle. I've been trying to eat better. But I'm kind of lazy (which doesn't help):)

Jem -- the fact that you hosted a shower proves you are a rock star. Seriously, I am impressed with your strength.

I dont do WW, but I do write down everything I eat at the end of the day. It just helps with mindfulness.

I'm also trying to drop weight. I track, I lose it. I don't track, I don't lose it. I'm finding motivation to exercise weaker, but am willing myself this week to make the 4x goal.

Bravo on the shower. I would say that you did more than survive, you had a decent time. It was quite a courageous party, and you did splendidly!

You are very brave. I would not have made it through the shower. I bet you will do a great job losing weight - you seem to have a very positive attitude towards it.

I got a lot of mileage out of working out in the morning before work. Most of that mileage was logged in the self-righteousness of knowing that I'd already done my exercise for the day. Best of luck with the weightloss effort!
