Welcome IComLeavWe'ers

This is my first IComLeavWe post. I am so grateful to be part of this community of people, men and women, who are so open and sharing with the most personal aspects of their lives.

Me?

I'm 39 years old, married for 6+ years to Mr. Jem. Marriage just gets better and better and interestingly enough, facing IF has brought us closer together (after the initial denial and anger phase reacting to Male Factor IF). We've been TTC since Jan 07, but Mr. Jem really wasn't ready to deal with IF or a baby for that matter until May of this year.

We have just started our first (and hopefully last) IVF cycle. We will be doing IVF with ICSI, as Mr. Jem's count was so low (600K) and his motility low too. I ovulate and my FSH is in normal range, as is my Estradrol level. We are very optimistic about this cycle. We've been eating really healthfully (organic when we can, no caffeine, no alcohol, eliminating sugar (as best we can), good lean protein, lots of supplements). We're even doing acupuncture. Okay, I'm doing it mostly. Mr. Jem will have some right before his two donations for the IVF (one will be frozen, the other will be fresh). My understanding is that acupuncture right before and after embryo transfer can greatly increase the chance of a viable pregnancy. Gotta do anything possible to make this work.

Thanks for visiting my humble blog. I appreciate all the comments, support and encouragement.

Jem

Hi! My DH and I are also married for 6 years and IF with MFI... So much luck on your cycle, you couldn't be doing anything more 'right' for your cycle than you are right now. I have everything crossed for you! and I'll definitely be checking back in on you soon!!!

How does the acupuncture feel?

Acupuncture? It doesnt' really hurt. The needles are much smaller than when they draw blood, as they are not hollow. It's more like an insect sting, but it goes away. Energetically, it's very interesting, as I can almost feel the imact of the acupuncture of my nervous system. It's very hard to explain. I've been doing it for 4 weeks now (once a week) and the good news was that my period was a lot less crampy and I didn't have any PMS symptoms.

Hmmm. The part about periods sounds interesting. I have decided to be candid onlineabout my current issue....as it might help someone else. I was brought up that one did not talk of "personal" things. I am currently suffering from a hypothyroid symptom where "that-time-of-the-month" comes every two weeks...and it is really taking a toll on me. I don't know if I have the guts to do acupuncture...but I am glad that I read about this.

Bluest butterfly: Thank you so much for sharing your "personal" story. I don't know if acupuncture (and the herbs they give you) will help your hypothyroid symptoms. But, it really doesn't hurt. I'm much more scared/freaked out about the injectable drugs. In fact, most people find acupuncture so relaxing that they fall asleep during treatment. I'm a little more sensitive, so I can't. I do "meditate" or take the time to relax myself and imagine possitive outcomes in the future. It's total me time. No outside stimulus.

I definitely recommend considering acupuncture.

Best of luck and keep me posted on how things are going for you.

I really hope this works for you! Love your positive attitude. Don't worry about Mr's low #s... I know couples that had that problem and they ended up with twins!

it is definitely hard dealing with MFI. my husband's count is low (3 mil after washing). his is due to a testicle a 1/3 of the size it should be. NO guy likes to hear that and he was in denial for a long time. especially since the first dr. told him it was fine. he was happier thinking our IF was all my fault.

i'm praying for you and your husband to have a successful ivf cycle!

Mr. Jem is going to have acupuncture twice, two days before each "donation." Bless him! I'll be sure to blog about it when it happens!

Best of luck with your first IVF cycle. And best of luck to Mr. Jem with throwing some good swimmers as well (I am sure he would be thrilled to know he has good luck wishes from an internet stranger on that point). I hope all the lifestyle changes pay off for you with a BFP.
