Do-It-Yourself dIUI?

We are getting ready to embark on our first IUI. We'll be using donor sperm. I know it's strange to be doing an IUI after 3 IVFs (+ 1 FET), but we've given up on Mr Jem's swimmers and are ready to try something new (no more IVF for us). If dIUI doesn't work, we'll definitely go the donor egg route.

In the meantime, it's turkey-baster time! Speaking of which, at a recent RESOLVE get-together someone mentioned an at-home service where people (a midwife or someone else) comes to your house to help administer the IUI (a non-medicated, non-monitored cycle, of course).

There's a local service that does this. The idea of conceiving at home sounds WONDERFUL!!! (Isn't that what all us IFers dream of?

Has anyone else gone down that path?

Wow, now that's service! At-home turkey basting sounds pretty good!

I haven't done it, but it sounds GREAT. We do have MFI, so I've considered doing donor sperm (even if hubby hasn't yet). I would love to know more about this service!

I have a friend who is a midwife and who had a midwife buddy do this for her a couple times. It didn't work, but I'm pretty sure she needed meds too (the first IUI at the RE did work)

We did several DIY cycles, six maybe, although not quite what you are talking about. We were literally driving to our donor's house, giving him a little cup, and then inserting it into me with a syringe (no needle, of course). You can get the unwashed sperm from a cryobank and do the same thing. It didn't work for us, but I was on a DIY board on twoweekwait.com where several other couples had success with this method.

Hmmmm I think the at home version would be less stressful! Are you going to do a whole party like in the Jennifer Aniston movie???

At home, really? That sounds great. I hope you're able to do that.

What? Getting pregnant at home? What a novel idea. This sounds like an awesome service, and I hope to hear more.

Jem, just wanted to wish you a LOT of luck with this IUI cycle (and, to my mind, it makes a lot of sense to go this route).

You're right about conceiving at home being the dream of IF'ers everywhere...

I've never done anything like that before but it would be great to do something like in the comfort of my own home. Just wanted to say good luck on this upcoming IUI!
