To henna or not to henna????

I want to henna my hair, but am worried it's not good to do, like dying your hair while pregnant.

Anyone have advice? To henna or not to henna?

Realistically, I won't be cycling until the beginning of October.

Thoughts?

Not dying your hair while pregnant is an old wives' tale - not true. I've yet to come across a single doc that has a problem with dying hair. Don't believe the hype. Dye (or henna) away!

I used to do it (the henna) and it doesn't wash out like it says. LOL. Bleach incident proved that. But go for it. Better than the ammonia nastiness. Oh! and there are organic brands out there that are unfortunately expensive, but they are there if you want!

Henna is pretty gosh-darned organic (maybe not organically grown, but we're talking about ground up leaves!) So I'd think you're just fine. I've never seen ANYTHING recommending avoidance while pregnant or TTC. I say go for it.

Yeah, I've dyed my hair (and not with henna) several times while pregnant. It's either that or go completely grey, and I just can't do that. Yet. So, I say go for it.

That said, I have heard that henna is not good for naturally curly hair (I did have a less-than-optimal experience with it once).

As a hair dresser for 10+ years, I can tell you 100%, dying your hair is perfectly safe. Just don't eat the hair dye... or huff the fumes ;)

I used to highlight/dye the hair of many pregnant women.

And there is always a worse chance of you having an allergic reaction with henna than regular hair dye too.

All the toxins in your world - a little henna on the hair ain't so bad. The air you breathe in Big City SFO is probably much more toxic.

But who am I to say anything? I live in the Armpit of the country... New Jersey! It might be the garden state but I know how they keep the gardens green and our veggies looking so pretty.....

My 2cents....

Do it, it's important not to put other aspects of your life on hold for fertility. I checked with my Dr. and I was told I could color my hair after the first trimester. Don't worry, treat yourself. That's what's important right now. Be good to yourself.

It's gotta be fine! It's henna!

Typically, your hair doesn't absorb henna the way it would bleach, so its fine to use when pregnant. But ask your Dr. and it might be fine to dye, too.

You should do whatever you want to do to make yourself look/ feel pretty. My RE said it was totally fine to dye, too, btw.
